When they catch all they want from you
Then they find that's all you knew
Pack your bags for another town
It's time to move
Not that you were fortified
Rectified and on their side
Now you've found that you almost died and all alone
How do they be so cruel
Point a finger
Throw the book at you
Who would want to dance with you
Don't say it's true
I know it's true
I know it's true
Tell me that it's nobody's fault
Nobody's fault but my own
That it's nobody's fault
Nobody's fault but my own
When the moon is a counterfeit
Better find the one that fits
Better find the one that lights the way for you
When the road is full of nails
Darkened jails and garbage pails
And the papers full of heartless tales and faceless clowns
Who would ever be so cruel
Put into the residue
Who would ever dance with you
Don't say it's true
I know it's true
I know it's true
Tell me that it's nobody's fault
Nobody's fault but my own
Tell me that it's nobody's fault
Nobody's fault but my own
Tell me that it's nobody's fault
Nobody's fault but my own
Tell me that it's nobody's fault
Nobody's fault but my own

NOTES:
Beck's debut of Nobody's Fault came during his gig opening for Bob Dylan at the El Rey Theatre in 1997. The lyrics are significantly different, especially the first verse, but they still hold a certain weight and even without all the thick production behind it that the recorded version has, it still resonates deeply.
When asked about the history of the song, some expect Beck to divulge some heartbreaking personal story but as he puts it, "I just went down to my basement one rainy day, sat down, and wrote the thing."

December 12th 1997
