Beck shares the cover of Vanity Fair in this months Music Issue with other artists David Bowie, Stevie Wonder, Chris Cornell, Joni Mitchell, Gwen Stefani, Maxwell, Jay-Z, Emmylou Harris, Missy Elliott and Beyonce. Not only does Beck appear on the cover, but he has also compiled his list of The 50 Best Album Covers Ever along with comments on each cover. Following is an excerpt of Beck's comments on Devo's album cover for Freedom Of Choice: "I wasn't sure if they were an army, a gang, or a specialized task force of geological engineers. Whatever they were, when this came out, I wanted to enlist. There was something so satisfying about their regimented chaos. I'd love to see some of these new-school rock bands step up to this level of concept." The issue hits the stands on October 10th.

:::::: 08.22.01: TNT Lennon Tribute, Shortlist ::::::

Beck will appear in TNT's "Come Together: A Night for John Lennon" tribute show September 20th at New York's Radio City Music Hall. An edited version of the event will then air October 9th on TNT. Other artists scheduled to appear include Marc Anthony, Moby, and Nelly Furtado.

Beck, along with other assorted artists, producers, and journalists including Dave Grohl, Mos Def, Trent Reznor, and Aimee Mann will nominate their own lists of today's best and brightest in music. The nominations constitute the 80 nominee "Long List", which is then whittled down to the 10 nominee "Short List" which will be announced at a panel discussion in New York on September 14th as part of the New York Times Arts and Leisure Weekend Lecture Series. The winner of the Short List Prize for Artistic Achievement will then be announced October 30th. Check the Shortlist's website www.shortlistofmusic.com for more information.

Beck's birthday was July 8th and he was treated to a rendition of "Happy Birthday" by the band and 40,000 fans at Scotland's "T In The Park" festival. A birthday cake was even delivered to Beck on stage.

Beck has just recorded a very abrasive punk song called "Bad Energy" that will be on the MTV show 'Jackass' soundtrack cd.
